In Memoriam, Tan Boon Teik SC
12 March 2012

SIAC is very sad to announce the death of Tan Boon Teik SC on Saturday March 10th.

Mr Tan was the founding Chairman of SIAC and he held this post between July 1991 and August 1999. He is fondly remembered.

As SIAC’s first Chairman, Mr Tan played a vital role in setting up the Centre and establishing Singapore as a focal point for regional and international commercial arbitration.

During his period of tenure SIAC gained international recognition as a credible arbitration centre with an international caseload that rose from 2 cases in 1991 to 89 cases in 1999.

Prior to joining SIAC, Mr Tan held office as the Attorney-General of Singapore, a post he held from 1969 to 1992. He was the longest serving Attorney-General of Singapore post independence, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Singapore’s legal landscape and establishing its reputation for upholding the Rule of Law.

We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Mrs Tan Sook Yee, his children, Pip Tan Seng Hin and Tan Sui Lin, and five grandchildren.
